One of the hardest transitions for me is going form a hobbyist to a business mind set. trying to figure out what the project is worth, what is fair, what is my labor worth, and how to keep the client happy. after all the idea is to make a profit.
This week I taught myself that before I do any restoration work, inspect the item, figure out what needs done, then communicate to the client effectively. Meaning tell them what your going to do and how much it is going to cost. Make sure you and the client have an agreement, everyone is on the same page, then shack hands. If not sure tell them you will need some some to figure it out. Once you give the client a price, stay firm, sick to it. If something else comes up that wasn’t in the agreement then work with the client.
